Card Properties

The card properties are where you enter information to better organize your ideas, projects, address book entries and characters. Each card type has its own information. All cards share the note card as base information.

The Note Card (the General Tab)

Here you can fill in the following fields (only the name is required).

Application Link: enter a file to associate with this card. For example if you are working on a story you would probably link the word processor document where the actual resides. Then you simply have to click on the notebook header and Worgan will load the document for you.
High Priority: Select this field if this card is something that you want to start working on right away. Use the table of contents extra features to display only high priority cards.
Retired: Select this option if the card is no longer going to be used or it has already fulfilled its purpose. Retired cards usually do not show up in searches unless explicitly searched for.
Creation Date: By default the date is set when the card is created. You can change it if you like.
Source: This is for research purposes. Enter a source (such as a journal article, newspaper, or book). If you need to reference the material later it will be easy since you know where it came from.
Background Color: This sets the background color of the cards. By default this is white. This field is useful for color sorting your cards, if you are a more visual person.
Password protection: Assigns a password to the card. See passwords for more information.

The Note Card (the Foci Tab)

The focus feature is an integral part of all Worgan functionality. Read here for more information about it. Use the foci to perform specific searches by topic, not by page.

The Character Card

From here you can manually edit the character values or randomly generate them. To randomly generate value, you need to select a race. A default human race is included, but other races can be created by the Race Manager

Clicking on Random Character generates height, weight et cetera. However, if you want to add more detail, such as clothing and personality traits click on the Extra Info.... button. This brings you to Random Character Design (discussed below).

Remember that the Story field can be used to further organize your characters, by placing them in specific stories.

Random Character Design

You will see your character's name and sex on the caption bar. Here you can add extra details to the text portion of the card associated with this character.

Each button may be pressed individually, or by clicking Randomize All you can 'press' all the button simultaneously. All the details are associated with .use files (see List Adder). This means they can be easily expanded and modified by the user (they are simply text files).

The only button that behaves differently is Birthdate. If you specified a calendar with your race (in Race Manager) then clicking here chooses a random birthday. Using the Age and Year (which means current year in your world) fields it also calculates a year of birth. See Calendar Setup for more details. By default our standard world calendar is attached to any race, until modified.

When you have generated the correct text click on Add Text and the text will be added to the character's card.

The Project Card

Here you can edit the time spent on the project and the word count (if this is a story card).

Time Spent on Project: here you record general time spent on the project. The green timer on the project toolbar is used to automate the timing process. For more specific task timing see the Task Logger. Finished: in previous versions of Worgan to signify that you have finished a project you would add a finished focus. You can still do this, but you can also click the finished check box. They perform the same function.
Word Count: if this project is a story enter the number of words. This is used but submission book when you are sending your story places, it can sort markets by word count.
Due Date : when this project should be completed by. If you check the due-date it means that the card has been started.
Retain Rights : check true if you still own complete rights, otherwise in note card part you should explain exactly what rights remain to you.

The Biographer Card

This card is most useful for students in history classes where they need to understand numerous people and dates. Works well in conjunction with the timeline.

Birth Date: enter the birthdate.
Death Date: when did this person die?

You can use the table of contents to search by birth and death dates

Address Book

The address book is a simple place to enter information about your contains. It works like a standard notebook card so you get the full functionality of Worgan's searching capabilities. Use the focus to sort people as school contacts, fellow employees, or family.

The fields are standard address book fields and self explanatory. The web url and e-mail text areas each have buttons that when pressed will load the web-page or send an e-mail respectively.
