One of the pages you use should be a project page. To access any of the business tools you need one of these. A project page is useful for organizing your project-related ideas. Probably its most important function is in creating a submission book, in which finished projects (stories) are sent to markets.
Any non-project card can be promoted to a project by right-clicking over the text area on the notebook and selecting the Promote to Project command. (Be sure to save the card first ctrl+s).This will delete the old card, but will copy the information in it to a new Project card.
When would you use this command? Say you have an old plot idea that you have never done anything with. Then one day inspiration hits you and you want to start working on it. You promote it to a project and begin work...
There is also a field for word counts. This is specifically a feature for story/novel writers. It is used in searches when you try to find a suitable market for your work. It is different from the word count command accesible under Edit|Word Count. This feature just gives a rough count of the text in the notebook card.
