This is where you will probably spend most of your time when using Worgan so it is a good idea to familiarize yourself with the features here.
Toolbars
This toolbar is found on all notebook pages. The arrow keys handle the scrolling. The two middle arrows move previous, forward, respectively. The end-point errors go to the first card, and the last card. The index-card file button adds a new card.
The four-digit number represents where you are in the list. For example a 0001 means you are on the first card. A 0029 would mean the 29th card. By hovering the mouse over the label you will get a hint telling you the total number of cards on this page. By dragging and dropping the label onto a QuickButton you can add a shortcut to this card.
By dragging the track-bar, you can move rapidly through the cards on the page.
Next comes the history drop-down. History remembers the last ten card positions you've recently visited. It will only remember the card if you stay on the card for longer than five seconds. The graphic button is a random card jump. It leaps to a random card on this page.
The open-book button brings up the Table of Contents. Next is the Properties button, Search button and Print buttons. Finally there is the help icon.
This toolbar contains standard formatting options. In this order you have Bold, Italic, Underline and Bullet adding. The next three buttons are special formatting buttons. In this order they are Plain, Title, and Note text. By right-clicking on these button you are brought to a format menu where you can modify the formatting characters. Then you can high-light text on the Notebook and click whichever of these buttons (for example to make all your titles a standard format). Also, whatever formatting that you assign to the Plain Text button, is used when a new card is created.
The next three buttons justify the text; right, center, and left respectively. The A button brings you to a standard format select dialog. The next two controls represent a quick font select and font size select.
The final drop-down is associated with Focus. Here you can specify a certain focus to display. Only cards with this focus will be shown as you scroll through the cards, (when using the previous, next button or the random button. For example, if you are working on a medieval-context story and you want to only see cards of this type, you would select the Medieval focus, that you have defined previously. Now when you scroll about you will only see cards of this type. By selecting all you can return normal Notebook functionality.
This page is where project management issues are handled. The button furthest to the right is the scene manager. This will allow you to do scene moving, to readjust the outline for your story.
To the left of it you have the Quick Task Manager timer. Click on this button and choose a category to start timing (i.e., start timing your writing). If the button is high-lighted red (as it is in this screen shot) it means that the timer is operating. The button beside this one brings up a database of all task entries for this project. See Task Manager for more information.
Next we have another timer button. This is the general time button. It functions much the same as the button above.
The pencil button represents a Editor's Summary. Pressing it will display any responses that you've entered as receiving from markets that you've sent your projects to.
The note-it is a checklist. Click it to bring up a form where you can enter tasks and check them off as you complete them.
Finally we have the submission manager.
Most of this toolbar is status indicators, such as height and weight. Clicking on the die at the end will create a random character (if you've selected a race, see Notebook Properties).
The opening door is used to jump to the next character in the same story. The story link field is the last label before this button. In this example it is none. That means this character is not associated with a particular story. You can change this field in Notebook Properties.
If you are interested in incorporating role-playing character statistics, Worgan will eventually include an interface with the Knowl_Edge GRIZ (generic role-playing system). In the meantime you might want to check out Familiar which has a very good AD&D character generation system.
Here the user can drag-drop, ten quick-links. The light-bulb is a QuickNote; just a simple note for storing quick ideas. The chain is a QuickLink; it will return the user to the last card you have jumped from (via an Inline Thread).
The final icon on the tool-bar is a quick link to the reminders.
This feature is discussed in detail under Bookmarks.
DROP FILES ONTO HEADER If you drop a file and the card is Untitled still, it adopts the name of the file thus making Worgan useful for creating an Meta-Organizer of Files. Dropping files onto the header will normally create a link from that card to the file. Click on the header and it will execute the file.
Click on the header anywhere else and it bring up the notebook properties.
