Markets

Understanding the Market form can make organizing your writing system easy. To create a new market you have to click the Create New Market every time. You select existing markets from the list to the left to modify them.

Most of the entries are self explanatory. Some need a little explaining though:
You should enter values into the average response time and the payment per word, because these fields are used by Destinations for sorting purposes. A thing to note: if you sell your story, Worgan doesn't automatically generate the income for you by multiplying your word total versus the payment rate. I've found that rates often change upon acceptance, and thus I only use it as a gauge to compare different markets, not for accounting information.

When enterering Market URLS just put the www part, the http:// is already included.

The focus, helps when adding events. You should at least specify the genre (if the market only accepts fantasy and sci-fi, you would add these two criteria to the markets focus list).

There is a Market Notes button for you to enter text (for example, if a Market has weird tastes et cetera). We often paste the whole contents of writing guidelines obtained from the market here.

To actually save the updated market you need to click the Update button.

Exporting and Importing Markets

Market: explain with Market Import that you nehe Update button

Export Market File: This will make a file (*.mar) out of the market. It is like copying the market from the list of markets. Once you have a market as a market file you can upload it to my web-page knowledge.bizhosting.com. Hopefully other users will do the same and I can create a market exchange site so everyone can keep up to date on the markets. See Import markets below for more details on how to use other people's markets.

Export|Print: This command brings you a print preview of the market.

Import: Choose this command to load a market file in. A sample market file transversions.mar is include with this distribution. Load it in, and then clicking Update will confirm that you want to add this market to your internal Worgan database.

Cutting and Pasting Markets

The two buttons, Paste from Clipboard and Copy To Clipboard form a simplification process, that will hopefully help you. Most of our writing market information has come from the Writing Market, a useful Internet resource located at Market List. We wanted to automate the process of adding markets a little, so we created Paste from Clipboard.

NOTE: this feature only works with a NEWLY created Market entry (do not even enter the magazine's name).

How to Use these Features?

Basically if you have a market entry in the form of (excluding the []):

[Magazine Name]

[Editor]

[Box office or Mailing address]

[City, Province(or state) Postal Code (or zip code)]

You can copy this information from any word processor and then click the Paste from Clipboard button. The fields automatically update to reflect the information. This is the format that the Writing Market stores most of their information, so if you use this resource you won't have much trouble in porting your market information over to Worgan. If you use other resources, then this feature isn't very helpful.

Pressing Copy to Clipboard copies the contents in the following format to the clipboard. Will output address in the form:

[Magazine name]

[box number]

[city], [province] [postal code]

From here you can paste the address into your cover letters or label printing software.

New Fields

Accept E-mail Subs: checkbox; click this if the market accepts submissions via e-mail.

Closed: select this if the market has closed. You should not delete closed markets, unless you never sent anything to them.

On Hiatus: when a market goes on hiatus it may one day open for submissions again. Click the button beside this option to create a reminder to notify you when the market is no longer on hiatus.

You can delete markets by right-clicking on the market list.

Editors

If you have an editor in your address book you can link directly from market to their address book entry. To access the address book list, you must first go into Properites and choose an address book to use (because more than one address book is allowed). After selecting a contact from the address book on the drop-down editor field. DoubleClick to go to that address book entry
