Hints for a Beginning Writer

Worgan can help you organize your writing but it should be stressed that Worgan IS NOT going to make you a successful writer. This takes years of hard work.

The way I use Worgan--I'm not saying this is the best way--is that I still keep a paper notebook with me wherever I go. Every few nights I copy all the information from the notebook that I want to keep, into Worgan; each idea on a separate card. When I'm starting a new project/story, I play with the Brainstormer, trying to create associations between ideas that I would never have noticed before. Once I have what I feel is a workable idea, I start a new PROJECT card. I fill in the appropriate focus information. Then I start doing research. I add the research as cards on the appropriate page and make Inline Threads from the Project Card to the research cards. If there is a map or picture that goes with the project I include it as an executable Inline Link.

Every person has their own level of pre-writing organization that they take care of. Worgan is quite capable of handling a whole plot outline if that is the way you work. Alternatively you can simply place a few ideas and plans of operation for the new project, to help guide you.

Your Own Story or Novel

Assume you've started writing your grand story. While you write, you can track the time taken to complete the story (see Project Toolbar).

Make sure that you send the story to an appropriate Market (one that buys from your story's genre; it is best to read a few sample copies, if possible). Many magazines are now placing some sample stories and articles on the web. Also, make sure that the word count for your story falls in the range desired by the editors of said Market.
